Summer has finally arrived which means more reading time for us over here at Twin Reads, BUT it also means that our TBR stack has been piling up during the school year. Like really piling up. Like the size of a mountain piling up. It’s big (trust us on this one). And while we obviously love reading a good book now and then, our love of reading doesn’t stop with just straight up books. It is extended to comics and graphic novels, which means our mountainous TBR pile also extends to cover this wonderful medium. Suffice to say we got a lot of reading to do and a lot of graphic novels to swoon over. So, without further ado here is our current graphic novel TBR…
The Nameless City
Faith Erin Hicks
To say we are excited to read this book would be the understatement of the century. We are huge Faith Erin Hicks fans. HUGE. We ordered a signed copy of this book from the wonderful people over at Fantom Comics in DC and when it arrived we just about exploded from excitement. Not to mention that it is blurbed by the ever so awesome Bryan Konietzko, one of the creators of Avatar: The Last Airbender. Need we say more?
Lumberjanes To The Max Edition, Vol. 1
Shannon Watters, Grace Ellis, Noelle Stevenson and Brooke Allen
We are behind on the Lumberjanes train and holy cow it is killing us! We have been waiting to read this fantastic series since it started, but as is often the case, school got in the way and Lumberjanes got put off (and for far to long if you ask us). We received this wonderful edition (which includes a foreword from the fantastic Raina Telgemeier) from our parents at Christmas and have been dying to crack its spine every day since!
Pretty Deadly, Vol. 1: The Shrike
Kelly Sue DeConnick and Emma Ríos
So, the art in Pretty Deadly is pretty dang mesmerizing. Just look at that cover! And we are sure the story will be too. According to the description, “Death’s daughter rides the wind on a horse made of smoke and her face bears the skull marks of her father.” If that doesn’t intrigue you we don’t know what will!
Harrow County, Vol. 1: Countless Haints
Cullen Bunn and Tyler Crook
Fancy a horror comic anyone? We sure do. Not to mention a Harrow County TV show is apparently in the works over at Syfy. We better get reading before that comes out!
Giant Days, Vol. 1
John Allison, Lissa Treiman and Whitney Cogar
Okay, so don’t even get us started on Giant Days. This comic has been staring us down from our shelf for far too long. Actually, this was one we could barely contain our excitement for and we actually started reading it quite a while back, unfortunately it got set aside half way through in order for us to focus on schoolwork (sad face), but we have been dreaming about finishing it ever since, especially because Vol. 2 is now out as well!
So, here are just a few of the graphic novels we are hoping to read in the coming months. Do you guys plan to read any of these picks? Have you read them already? Or do you have some other comics/graphic novels in mind for you summer reading? Let us know in the comments! We’ll see you all on the flip side (hopefully a little more well-read).
