Cover Love #10

Welcome back to another installment of Cover Love on Twin Reads, where we pick a cover we love of a book that we have read and explain why we think the cover design is SO GOOD. We created this series to appreciate cover design and the people who create the covers for all the books we love. Without them, we honestly might not have picked up the book in the first place. So here we are, Twin Reads sisters, giving credit where credit is due? Okay, so maybe its not that noble of a pursuit…but someones got to do it! Right?

So, with that little… uhh…explanation…behind us, the cover we love this week is…

My True Love Gave To Me: Twelve Holiday Stories edited by Stephanie Perkins

In honor of the new YA release this week of Summer Days and Summer Nights: Twelve Love Stories, edited by Stephanie Perkins—which includes short stories by some of our favorite authors such as Cassandra Clare, Leigh Bardugo and Veronica Roth—we thought it would be a GREAT idea to choose Stephanie Perkins’ first anthology, My True Love Gave To Me: Twelve Holiday Stories, for this week’s Cover Love post!

So, we’re sure you’re now probably wondering why we didn’t just choose the equally beautiful cover for the newer Summer Days and Summer Nights:Twelve Love Stories? Well, because WE DIDN’T WANT TO. No, just kidding. We simply thought that, since the design and art of these two covers are done in the same theme, (see below)…

it would be a good idea to start where these beautiful pieces of art started…with…the…first…book. Duh. Now with ALL of that explanation aside, lets get back to describing why we love the cover of My True Love Gave To Me: Twelve Holiday Stories. Which, just for a reminder, was this cover…

The beautiful, adorable, and whimsical art on the cover of this book was done by artist and designer Jim Tierney! We love the way this cover reflects the feel of the holidays. Everything from the font choice to the wintery, holiday-like setting and background, complete with ice rink, snowy mountains, and ornament-filled christmas trees, adds to the whimsical holiday feeling of this cover. We love the color scheme of muted greens, reds and blues, and the cute yellow stars, used both to add separation between the names of the different authors as well as to create a clear, winter, starry, night sky above the happy skaters below. Which, brings us to the last part we love so much about this cover art—every main character from all of the separate stories can be found skating on the ice rink at the bottom of the design! How cute is that?

This is a book full of whimsical, warm, silly, funny, and magical stories about love and friendship during the holiday season. Each story brings a unique experience during the holiday season, but one that will most definitely leave you feeling warm and fuzzy inside. This cover’s holiday essence, created in its color choice, font choice, and background and setting design, captures that unique holiday feeling you can only get from that special time of year (and from reading this book). All of the cover design elements are key in creating its holiday theme. And, it is always fun to read one of the stories and see if your can find the characters skating somewhere on the front cover!

What do you guys think of this cover? Have you guys read My True Love Gave To Me: Twelve Holiday Stories yet? If so, Do you think its stories as well as its cover capture the holiday spirit as much as we do? Let us know in the comments!
