April Book Haul

So, life is getting pretty stressful here for us at school. Finals are swiftly approaching and we are just a tad overwhelmed, but we refuse to fall behind on Twin Reads because of it! So we thought, for the sake of our sanity, we would just put together a quick little book haul for you guys to peruse. We got some good stuff! Here we go…

1. We Are Okay by Nina LaCour

You go through life thinking there’s so much you need…

Until you leave with only your phone, your wallet, and a picture of your mother.

Marin hasn’t spoken to anyone from her old life since the day she left everything behind. No one knows the truth about those final weeks. Not even her best friend, Mabel. But even thousands of miles away from the California coast, at college in New York, Marin still feels the pull of the life and tragedy she’s tried to outrun. Now, months later, alone in an emptied dorm for winter break, Marin waits. Mabel is coming to visit, and Marin will be forced to face everything that’s been left unsaid and finally confront the loneliness that has made a home in her heart.”

2. Gilded Cage by Vic James

“Our world belongs to the Equals — aristocrats with magical gifts — and all commoners must serve them for ten years. But behind the gates of England’s grandest estate lies a power that could break the world.

A girl thirsts for love and knowledge.

Abi is a servant to England’s most powerful family, but her spirit is free. So when she falls for one of the noble-born sons, Abi faces a terrible choice. Uncovering the family’s secrets might win her liberty, but will her heart pay the price?

A boy dreams of revolution.

Abi’s brother, Luke, is enslaved in a brutal factory town. Far from his family and cruelly oppressed, he makes friends whose ideals could cost him everything. Now Luke has discovered there may be a power even greater than magic: revolution.

And an aristocrat will remake the world with his dark gifts.

He is a shadow in the glittering world of the Equals, with mysterious powers no one else understands. But will he liberate—or destroy?”

3. The Song Rising by Samantha Shannon

“Following a bloody battle against foes on every side, Paige Mahoney has risen to the dangerous position of Underqueen, ruling over London’s criminal population.

But, having turned her back on Jaxon Hall and with vengeful enemies still at large, the task of stabilising the fractured underworld has never seemed so challenging.

Little does Paige know that her reign may be cut short by the introduction of Senshield, a deadly technology that spells doom for the clairvoyant community and the world as they know it…”

Did you guys buy any new books recently? We would love to hear what you have picked up!

  1. We Are Okay is one of my most anticipated reads of this year! I can’t wait to have my own copy. ❤ I've read Gilded Cage. And I just actually posted my review. Feel free to read. I have a kind of mixed thoughts about it but I still like it and would definitely read the next book on the trilogy. ❤

    1. Yes We Are Okay seems to be pretty high on most people’s lists we have noticed! It was wonderful (and it has just about the most beautiful cover ever)! Yeah we were kind of in the same position with Gilded Cage—definitely intrigued enough to keep reading future books in the series, but there was just something slightly off that made it not add up to our favorites. We think it was because not enough time was spent with any one character, there were too many shifts in perspective. But still, very unique and intriguing for sure! Oh yay! We will definitely check out your review!
